ABOUT PES

IEEE NSU PES Student Branch Chapter is a dynamic technical sub-unit of IEEE Societies committed to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field of electric power and energy. Its mission is to provide scientific and engineering information to benefit society and foster the professional development of our members.

IEEE NSU PES SBC is dedicated to conducting cutting-edge research activities and implementing advanced technological ideas to contribute to the field of Power and Energy. In recognition of its efforts, the IEEE NSU PES Student Branch Chapter has achieved notable milestones, including ranking 5th in the Asia Pacific [IEEE Region 10] as an IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter in 2020. Continuing the pursuit of excellence, this chapter has been awarded the title of High Performing Branch Chapter back to back in both 2021 and 2022, with the highest grant received. This recognition underscores the commitment to innovation, collaboration, and leadership in the realm of power and energy engineering.

IEEE PES Day 2024

In a world where climate change and environmental pollution remain critical challenges, electric mobility emerges as a promising solution to address these issues. With increasing urbanization and the growing number of vehicles on the roads, traditional mobility based on fossil fuels is exacerbating the climate crisis and contributing to air pollution. It is clear that we urgently need cleaner and more sustainable alternatives for our transportation needs.

So we’re back with the 7th IEEE PES DAY on the theme: “Empowering Electric Mobility Innovation“. 

The celebration is open to ideas and actions to save the world recognize citizens’ contributions, encourage them, and provide them with limelight so that they can spread their actions and ideas.

Keeping this theme in mind, let’s collaborate and connect with a global network of IEEE Members, PES Volunteers, and PES Young Professionals to make PES Day a great success and help bring a significant change with Technical, Social, Humanitarian, Women in Power, and Young Professional aspects.

From worsening climate and environmental conditions, it is clear that we are probably not taking enough corrective actions. But there are odd individuals, organizations, and government bodies out there, who actually are taking significant actions and have brilliant ideas to save the world from the catastrophic effects of climate change.

So we’re back with the 6th IEEE PES DAY on the theme Powering a Climate Safer Future! , being conducted in hybrid mode.

The celebration is open to ideas and actions to save the world to recognize citizens’ contributions, encourage them, and provide them with limelight so that they can spread their actions and ideas.

Computing for Green Wheels and Grids

 

In the push for a greener world, computer science and power engineering can team up to make a real difference. Using fancy algorithms and data crunching, Computer Science helps us figure out where we're wasting energy and how we can do better. It's like having a smart buddy who knows how to optimize our power systems, seamlessly integrating solar panels and wind turbines. And with smart grid tech, we can talk about real-time monitoring and control to reduce energy waste and boost efficiency. Plus, computer science is beefing up cybersecurity to keep our power grids safe from digital threats.

In celebration of IEEE PES Day 2024, themed "Empowering Electric Mobility Innovation," IEEE NSU PES SBC, in collaboration with the IEEE NSU Student Branch and IEEE NSU SB WIE Affinity Group is organizing a seminar titled “Computing for Green Wheels and Grids”. The seminar will feature Saif Ahmed, Adjunct Lecturer of the ECE department of North South University and QA Programmer of Invisible Technologies, as our keynote speaker. Scheduled for the 24th of April, celebrating the 7th PES Day 2024, this program will provide insights into the potential of Computer Science to play a vital role in developing a sustainable environment.

Electric Vehicles and their Adaptation in Bangladesh

In celebration of IEEE PES Day 2024, themed "Empowering Electric Mobility Innovation," IEEE NSU PES SBC, in collaboration with the IEEE NSU Student Branch and IEEE NSU RAS SBC, is organizing a seminar on electric vehicles (EVs) and their adaptation in Bangladesh. The seminar is titled "Electric Vehicles and their Adaptation in Bangladesh," and it goes beyond the basics. It delves into EVs' core functionalities and environmental benefits while providing an excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities Bangladesh faces in EV adaptation.

The seminar agenda covers the latest developments in battery technology, charging infrastructure, and intelligent mobility solutions, providing attendees with insights into the current trends in the EV industry. To reinforce this knowledge, the seminar will feature real-world case studies showcasing successful EV implementations worldwide and within Bangladesh, offering valuable opportunities to learn from practical examples.

Industrial Tour 5.0

Industry visits are crucial in our academic journey, offering a valuable tool to educate and raise awareness within the Engineering community. It's a hands-on experience that enhances our understanding of the practical side of engineering.

To make the most of this chance and get hands-on with what we learn in theory, the IEEE NSU PES Student Branch Chapter, in partnership with the IEEE NSU Student Branch, organizes a full-day Industrial tour at Energypac Engineering Ltd.. The visit to Energypac Engineering Ltd's transformer and switchgear factory is essential for our students to gain practical insights into industrial processes, fostering a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering. Participants will acquire knowledge about project objectives, methodologies, and task engagement, while also learning how to establish a sustainable connection with Energypac Limited. The focus of the visit is to explore cutting-edge technologies in transformer and switchgear manufacturing, emphasizing stringent quality standards. This experience will contribute to advancing our students' networking and vision in the industrial sector.

EnergyPac, a top power engineering company in Bangladesh since 1982, aims to be the best end-to-end engineering solution provider. They are committed to addressing global challenges through the synergy of digitalization and sustainability. This tour will showcase the Power and Energy sector, fostering confidence, building relationships, and establishing community connections.

All students of the ECE Department, especially Electrical & Electronic Engineering students are encouraged to participate in this Industrial tour. The plant tours can be a key part of a successful outreach strategy. The tour includes breakfast, snacks, lunch, and a goodies kit for the participants.

Workshop on "Career Prospect for Youth in Bangladesh Clean Energy Sector"

USAID Bangladesh, in partnership with IEEE NSU Power & Energy Society Student Branch Chapter & IEEE NSU SB Women in Engineering Affinity Group, is excited to announce a workshop titled "Career Prospect for Youth in Bangladesh Clean Energy Sector" at North South University. The workshop is a part of the five-year energy project, Bangladesh Advancing Development and Growth through Energy (BADGE), organized in collaboration with North South University (NSU).

This event is strategically designed to address the expanding energy demand in Bangladesh amid rapid economic growth despite the challenges posed by limited indigenous energy resources. The seminar aims to shed light on the numerous career opportunities within the clean energy sector in Bangladesh, emphasizing the pivotal role of renewable energy (RE), energy efficiency (EE), and clean energy adoption across various sectors to ensure energy security.

The workshop is particularly tailored for young students who are keen on exploring career paths in the clean energy sector. The event will provide valuable insights into the challenges and scopes for the youth, with a special emphasis on encouraging young women to pursue careers in this dynamic and critical field. The workshop not only addresses Bangladesh's immediate energy needs but also serves as a platform for creating job opportunities and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The collaborative effort between IEEE NSU PES SBC, IEEE NSU SB WIE AG, and USAID exemplifies a commitment to supporting the youth in navigating and contributing to the clean energy landscape, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development of Bangladesh.
