Recent Trends in 3D Point Cloud Object Recognition

IEEE NSU Industry Application Society Student Branch Chapter

Are you aware of recent strides in 3D point cloud object recognition, powered by deep learning techniques like convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and PointNet? Do you know the importance of point cloud segmentation and multi-modal sensor fusion in the field of scene comprehension? Few-shot learning and transfer learning has lessened the dependence on extensive labeled data, aided by benchmark datasets propelling research forward. Real-time applications, particularly in automotive and manufacturing, underscore the mounting importance of 3D point cloud object recognition. The benefits it holds for engineering students are unquestionable. It equips students with sought-after skills, heightening their competitiveness in the job market. Proficiency in 3D point cloud recognition is pivotal in fields like robotics, autonomous vehicles, manufacturing, and construction, where precise object identification and localization are prerequisites.
Keeping this in mind, in celebration of IEEE Day, IEEE NSU Industry Applications Society Student Branch chapter has arranged a seminar titled "Recent Trends in 3D Point Cloud Object Recognition" for intrigued students on the 15th of October 2023. Our distinguished speaker for this eagerly awaited seminar will be DR. SHAFIN RAHMAN, who holds the coveted title of Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, at North South University. Dr. Shafin Rahman, who obtained his PhD from The Australian National University in Australia, adds a lot of expertise and knowledge to our project. His knowledge and direction will surely enhance the seminar attendees' learning opportunities.
