
Communication Camp 2.O.
Often we engineers lack the confidence to speak out loud in front of a crowd, and we shy away from such opportunities to express our ideas. To improve upon this short and build better self-confidence WIE Affinity Group, IEEE NSU Student Branch again organised a skill development boot camp titled “Communication Camp 2.O”. Our mission was to help the students develop their core communication skills, which would further help them in their corporate, academic, and personal lives. This one long event was held from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, 6th of December at North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, with over a hundred participants from different universities. And many members of the IEEE NSU Student Branch volunteered along with WIE’s Executive and Sub- Executive Bodies helped to organise this successful event. On the day participants reported at 9.00 am and collected their kits from volunteers. After reporting, the WIE’s chair, Zannatul Ferdous, and her Executive Bodies organised an ice-breaking session to warm up the participants. The first session was “Presentation Hacks” which started at 9:30 am conducted by Sakib Bin Rashid, a very familiar name among the successful young professionals in Bangladesh who is currently the Chief Instructor and one of the founding members at Robi 10 Minute School. He taught us the art of presentation about how we can present our ideas and ourselves better on the stage. Later on, Anika Shams Alumni of North South University and Talent Development Manager of Banglalink took the” CV Writing” workshop which started at 10:45 am. She explained how to attract the recruiter’s attention with the perfect CV. She talked from her years of experience as a recruiter and showed her CV at the end as an example. At 12:30 pm “Public Speaking” session was started by Sayed Ibrahim Saajid, Manager of Commercial Division at bkash Limited and Vice President Education of Dhaka North Toastmasters Club. He trained the participants about written and spoken communication during his session. He focused on all aspects needed to deliver an amazing speech and told us his secret strategy behind his great speeches. Later on, after lunch break at 03:00 PM, a technical workshop for the engineering students was held which was “Software Testing with Mozilla” conducted by Hossain Al Ikram who currently works for Mozilla since 2014 and leaded Mozilla’s Bangladesh QA Community. He came with his full team of Mozilla and trained the participants on how to test any kind of web sites and its functionalities on standard quality assessment procedures. At 4:10 pm “Engineering Communication” session was conducted by Youngest entrepreneurs Rakhshanda Rukham, the Co-Founder of preneurs Lab and the Google WomenTechmaker, Lead Bangladesh. She talked from her experience about how engineering students communicate and share their ideas, thoughts among themselves. At the end of the event, WIE faculty advisor Ashfia Binte Habib presented a token of appreciation to every speaker after their sessions ended. The event ended successfully with the closing ceremony where the special prize was distributed to the participants and the organizing committee.
